Production Manager, Technical Director, Stage Manager.
So many titles, what do you actually do?

The Production Manager is the person who oversees all the technical details for an event  or show including the technical production budget, staffing, and logistics.  In some settings this person is also called a Technical Producer.

The term Technical Director can be defined differently depending on what kind of production environment you’re in; take a look at my blog post for more on that.  The Technical Director work I do is usually an on-site supervisory role leading the crew and making sure all the technical elements are implemented according to plan.

As a Stage Manager,  I’m calling cues over an intercom system to keep all the technical components on track.  Managing a concert stage, it’s less about calling cues and more about communication between the bands and the production departments. Plus keeping an eye on the clock.

I do all these things, and simply adapt to whatever environment I'm working in.  In short, I provide organization and technical communication to help the show run smoothly, whatever my official title.

A rare image of me preparing to call a show, I don't like the spotlight much.
